Manchester Airport has commenced work to revamp and expand its Terminal 3, including a new sports bar with airfield views.

The airport is nearing the completion of its project to rebuild and double the size of its Terminal 2, with features including a new high street-style shopping area called The Avenue, as well as a new security hall with 3D scanners, and a second pier with additional boarding gates.

This summer six new shops and food outlets were unveiled within T2, including a LEGO store and Rituals cosmetics shop, as well as Starbucks, Upper Crust and Joe & The Juice outlets.

When the new Terminal 2 fully opens the airport will then close its existing Terminal 1, with parts of the building being used to expand the adjacent Terminal 3.

The 469-seat Sporting Chance bar will open early next year, showing regular sporting events and offering customers airfield views.

The revamped T3 will also feature a new Italian restaurant called Terracotta, and the terminal will offer extra space, 40% more seating, a new entrance, new shops and F&B outlets, and the latest security screening equipment.

Commenting on the news Manchester Airport’s managing director Chris Woodroofe, said:

“Here at Manchester Airport we’re proud to connect the North to the world and we’re always looking at how we can improve the experience we provide to our passengers.

“Our 10 year, £1.3bn project to completely transform Terminal 2 is nearly finished and we know passengers who have already used it absolutely love it.

“And now we’re able to shift our focus to Terminal 3 where work has already begun. Our plan is to take advantage of the extra space that will be afforded by the closure of Terminal 1 to really improve the experience for passengers who fly from there.

“It’s great to see the work already underway and really exciting that passengers will start to see the benefits of it from early next year.”
