If you’ve been through Manchester Airport lately, you’ll know Terminal 2 is in the middle of a massive glow-up. As part of its £1.3 billion redevelopment, the terminal is getting ready to unveil one of its most exciting new features yet, The Great Northern Market, a first-of-its-kind “market hall” dining destination right in the heart of the airport.
Set to open in the coming months, The Great Northern Market will bring together six independent-style street-food kitchens around a vibrant central dining space, so you and your mates can all grab something different but still eat together before your flight. Think of it as a taste of Manchester’s street food scene… but airside.
What’s happening at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2?
So, what’s on the menu? Airport Retail Director Richard Jackson spilled the beans on the airport’s official podcast, Manchester: Your Airport, MAN, confirming the opening lineup of kitchens. Here’s what you can expect:Nashville Hot House: serving up buttermilk chicken and other fiery Southern favourites
The Black Iron Grill: smash burgers and loaded fries done properly
Kouzina: bringing bold Greek and Mediterranean street eats
La Casita: a fiesta of Mexican flavours
Palms Café: pan-Asian dishes inspired by the best of the East
Napoli Street Pizza: because who doesn’t love a slice before take-off?
And it wouldn’t be truly Manc without a local legend in the mix. Gooey, the city’s cult bakery known for its cookies, doughnuts, and drool-worthy coffee, will also take pride of place in the new market.
Richard said: “The Great Northern Market will be Manchester Airport’s own market hall – six kitchens in one, over 1,000 square metres and 500 seats,” said Richard Jackson. “It’s going to be a real hit with the Manchester crowd. Whatever you fancy, there’s something for everyone, and there’ll even be a takeaway option if you want to grab something for your flight.”

For Gooey co-founder Jake Ansbro, the new opening is a homecoming of sorts: “Gooey was born in Manchester, and the city has supported us from day one. Opening at Manchester Airport feels like a dream next step, a chance to share what we do with people travelling across the world. We’re buzzing to be part of The Great Northern Market alongside so many amazing operators.”
The market is just one part of the airport’s wider 10-year transformation plan, which is nearing completion. More than 20 new shops and restaurants are on the way, including big names like LEGO®, Rituals, and Joe & The Juice. Once the project wraps up, Terminal 2 will more than double in size and become the airport’s main hub, with Terminal 1 set to close.
