Manchester’s latest market hall is all set to open at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2.
The Great Northern Market will bring modern, streetfood-inspired dining to the departure lounge as part of the airport’s £1.2 billion transformation project.
Located on the ground floor of the terminal’s departure hall, the market is the first concept of its kind in any UK airport.
John and Hayley Butts, directors of Airport Retail Enterprises, which is behind the development, said: “We are thrilled to be finally opening our doors and bringing this exciting new street-food style concept to Manchester Airport. Great Northern Market will provide all the benefits of a market hall environment – variety, quality, value and a lively, social atmosphere – on a scale not previously seen in UK airports.”
The space houses six kitchens offering everything from Nashville-style hot chicken to Greek plates, loaded burgers, Asian-inspired dishes, Mexican favourites and Neapolitan sourdough pizza.
It also features Manchester favourite Gooey, whose cookies and donuts will be instantly recognisable to many travellers passing through.
Menus across the hall have been developed by Manchester-born Executive Chef Amy Tomkinson, who has collaborated with Northern talent including Merseyside chef Sam Grainger on La Casita and the team behind Yard & Coop for Nashville Hot House.
The venue’s design features bold interiors and a large, open social space. Sheffield visual artist Marcus Method has created a full-wall mural for the project, alongside other artwork that runs through menus and digital elements. Table-side ordering is also built in to make the experience quicker and easier for passengers preparing to travel.
